I think we need to move on from this before it turns more ridiculous than it has already become

This is what IANA has to say on the subject:

We rely on terminology that is derived from the United Nations, so as not to be involved in conflicts over what countries should be called. In the UN's M.49 standard, and in turn the ISO 3166-1 standard, it refers to the entity as the "Occupied Palestinian Territory".

This has been changed back to Palestinian Territory.  I'm not sure how it reverted back to the ISO 3166 version.

For reference, we use ISO 3166 country names.

However, the following changes have been made, based on feedback from our users:

BN - "Brunei Darussalam" is called Brunei
BO - "Bolivia, Plurinational State of" is called Bolivia
CD - "Congo, the Democratic Republic of the" is called Democratic Republic of the Congo
CG - "Congo" is called Republic of the Congo
FK - "Falkland Islands (Malvinas)" is called Falkand Islands
FM - "Micronesia, Federated States of" is called  Micronesia
IR - "Iran, Islamic Republic of"  is called Iran
KP - "Korea, Republic of"  is called South Korea
KR - "Korea, Democratic Republic" of  is called North Korea
LA - "Lao People's Democratic Republic" is called Laos
LY - "Libyan Arab Jamahiriya"  is called Libya
MD - "Moldova, Republic of" is called Moldova
MF - "Saint Martin (French part)" is called Saint Martin
MK -"Macedonia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of"  is called Macedonia
PS - "Palestinian Territory, Occupied" is called Palestinian Territory
RU - "Russian Federation" is called Russia
SH - "Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha" is called Saint Helena
SY   - "Syrian Arab Republic" is called Syria
TW - "Taiwan, Province of China" is called Taiwan
TZ  - "Tanzania, United Republic" of  is called Tanzania
VA - "Holy See (Vatican City State)" is called Vatican City
