No such thing as IMPOSSIBLE flags

Recently, I've been seeing a lot of posts saying that some of the flags on Flag Counter are impossible to obtain.

If there were impossible flags, why would Flag Counter even have them? Even if a territory has a permanent population of zero, it doesn't mean that someone can't land there and visit your site in the future. Even Bouvet Island, which is uninhabited, has 6 internet hosts, while South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands have 196 internet hosts in 2008 according to the CIA World Factbook.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_Internet_hosts

Internet host definition:
An Internet host is a computer connected directly to the Internet; normally an Internet Service Provider's (ISP) computer is a host. Internet users may use either a hard-wired terminal, at an institution with a mainframe computer connected directly to the Internet, or may connect remotely by way of a modem via telephone line, cable, or satellite to the Internet Service Provider's host computer. The number of hosts is one indicator of the extent of Internet connectivity.

Re: No such thing as IMPOSSIBLE flags

You will see in the list that overseas territories have no rank number. The number of internet hosts in the territory may not but the actual number of hosts based in the territory. Also, it is possible that internet users only connect remotely to the hosts. Therefore, the flag registered by Flag Counter's geolocation technology may not correspond to the geographic location of a host. Nevertheless, even 1 internet host based in the territory is enough to make my point - no flag is impossible to acquire.

Re: No such thing as IMPOSSIBLE flags

B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T. There's only one inhabited place in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, with three computers with internet connection available. I had a visit from all those three PCs and all of them left an Australian flag. Therefore: South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are impossible. And that's only ONE example of an IMPOSSIBLE country.

There's no need for that language here. Sorry I hurt you emotionally though.

First of all, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is NOT a country.
Second, I believe you're confusing IMPROBABLE with IMPOSSIBLE. Okay, Flag counter's geolocation technology is only 99% accurate, but that doesn't mean that a visit that's registered as SGSSI won't happen one day. But you'll probably be six feet under before you get one.

Re: No such thing as IMPOSSIBLE flags

It probably hasn't been updated since the list is from the 2008 CIA World Factbook. In any case, Flag Counter's counter has already had visits from those territories.

Re: No such thing as IMPOSSIBLE flags

Palau and Saint Pierre and Miquelon are quite easy to obtain... You should also check out the number of internet users, not only the number of hosts. And as for SGSSI, you didn't hurt me emotionally, I simply know the country is impossible to get. Maybe a few years later, when scientists return there, it will be possible. Now it's not.
