Puerto Rico?

How come Puerto Rico is listed as a separate country but is actually a territory of the United States, almost like the District of Colombia? Puerto Rico is not a US state, but is not a country...

How would you suggest we count them?

Re: Puerto Rico?

I agree with roddersnavy, it is common in different trackers that Puerto Rico have their own flag among US Virgin Islands, Guam etc.

Re: Puerto Rico?

I mean I don't think it really is a big deal at all, but it is odd that it is listed in the list of countries. I really am not sure how I would classify it, because it wouldn't really belong in the US state list... oh well

Re: Puerto Rico?

well in Australia it is the same, we have territories that have their own flags on the counter too. Norfolk, Cocos Is and Christmas they are part of Australia but not their own state.

Re: Puerto Rico?

There are a ton of flags with this "problem": Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey are all UK. Netherlands Antilles & Aruba are governed by the Netherlands. Greenland is technically part of Denmark. Niue is under the jurisdiction of New Zealand, etc., etc., etc.

I assumed divisions were decided by the CIA factbook where all the info comes from: if it's listed separately there, it's listed separately on Flag Counter. (Although correct me if I'm wrong on this?) That system at least seems consistent, so I have no objections to it. The alternative would be to get rid of dozens of flags, and I assume most people don't want that.

They are British crown dependencies and no way part of UK.
