For Jeremy and other pro users: Please, read this
Hello, Mr. Admin!
Since you haven't replied to my e-mail, I decided to make a topic here, so that other pro users can express their opinion too.
I've recently spoken to MM and I was told that their new database, GeoIP2, is all set up and running. It has all of the incorrectly placed cities and towns fixed and much higher accuracy (about 3% higher). It uses ISOs instead of FIPS though, which might be a bit of a problem, cause you might have to change your API.
MM are still updating Legacy, however they don't support corrections for towns/cities anymore. That basically means that the cities that are incorrectly placed in that db will stay incorrectly placed forever.
I just wanted to ask if you are planning to start using that one or to continue using the Legacy one. I was told that the new GeoIP2 database should bring us 20-25 previously impossible regions in 1-2 weeks.
Most ISOs are identical to FIPS, although there are some differences:
Bangladesh: 6 FIPS, 7 ISO (+Rangpur)
Ecuador: 22 FIPS, 24 ISO (+Santa Elena and Santo Domingo)
Egypt: 26 FIPS, 27 ISO (+Luxor)
Greenland is totally different since the old regions don't even exist anymore
Latvia: 33 FIPS, 119 ISO (this might be a lot of fun)
New Zealand: 16 FIPS, 17 ISO (+Tasman, not in use anyway)
Vietnam: 63 FIPS, 64 ISO (thought the last one is not in use anyway)
What's your verdict and what are other pro users' opinions? I've spoken to two people and they told me they will most probably cancel their subscription if the old database is still in use, since they expect the most accurate stats available.
Discuss.

Oh, and GeoIP2 HAS Asuncion
And also, it should bring us AT LEAST 10-15 new flags within a week, since there are MANY incorrectly placed towns/cities in the old Legacy database...
Najran and Ha'il
2-3 DO provinces
Asuncion
San Miguel
Jelgava and Jurmala
Vichada
possibly North Sinai
1-2 MN regions
Huancavelica
+ 4 DZ regions at least
Those are (and will be) forever unobtainable in the old database.
