In an effort to ensure compliance with our policies in a universal and fair manner, we have implemented new measures regarding the display of Flag Counters in comments posted to Flickr.

Starting now, you can specify the URL of your Flickr "photostream" that is allowed to display your counter.  This "photostream", and no other, will be authorized to show your Flag Counter in its comments.  Both free and pro users will be able to specify this URL in the "Allowed Sites" section of Flag Counter management. To make this a seamless transition, and easier for new customers, the first detected usage of your counter on Flickr will automatically fill this value, requiring no action on your part. 

As you may know, our policy regarding comments is in place to prevent abuse of our service.  We have seen abuse where there is 10-20 "hidden" Flag Counters in a single comment, which can slow our servers, resulting in a poor experience for the majority of our customers who use our service legitimately.

As a reminder, our Terms of Service states:

You may not place your counter on websites of which you do not own or operate, or which you have obtained permission from the person who does own or operate the site. You further may not include your counter in "comments" to sites that you do not own or operate.

I believe that this is a fair solution, and I hope that it allows Flickr users to better enjoy our service.  I know we have heard from several Flickr users who enjoy posting a Flag Counter to their own photos.  I look forward to your feedback.
