Flag counter showing too many pageviews
Suddenly my flagcounters stats are very high, pageviews are twice as high to almost 3x as high as my wordpress stats.
Unique visitors seem way too high too, though I can't compare because wordpress doesn't count those.
This suspiciously huge inflation seems to have been going on for at least a month (I had been too busy to check my stats for awhile.) Wordpress stats say my pageviews HAVE gone up in the last month, but not doubled and tripled.
In the past year, there has usually been some difference between the two counters, but never this huge a discrepancy. I have been on my blog a lot myself recently, I am worried that flagcounter is suddenly counting my own views.
This is really weird, and I have no idea which statistics to believe. Can some bot or bug be messing up my flagcounter?

Back with the same question...(Is this not an appropriate question for this forum?)
Could the much higher counts for flagcounter pageviews be due to flagcounter counting something that the other stats don't count? I believe that wordpress does not include rss feeds as "views", does flagcounter count those?

You should enable and keep your cookies. Your own visits will not be counted if you do so. Otherwise they will be counted every time you visit your own site.

Thanks, but I'm afraid I don't understand what that means, to "keep" my cookies?
I'm sure I have cookies enabled...Is this standard policy for flag counter, that the site-owner's own visits are counted in the stats? I am always there, writing and editing, not to mention checking my stats!

Keeping cookies is a browser setting. You have to check it there. In Firefox, you can find it at settings, privacy.
Flag counter is planting a cookie when you visit your site. In fact, flag counter is planting a cookie for each site you visit where the flag counter image is being displayed. You can check it by displaying the cookies in your browser settings.
If these cookies persist, your visits will not be counted twice, neither on your site nor on the other sites.

Having cookies enabled will only prevent FC from registering your own visits as the Last New Visitor, meaning that your total unique visitors number won't change (Overview Statistics). Your pageview number, however, will still increase everytime you visit your site and view the FC image (Visit Chart Statistics).

Sanya, thank you so much--that totally explains it! I never realized that my own visits were being counted in my "pageviews". I have been working on my pages every day the last month or so--- doing a lot of re-reading and editing. I really need a stat counter that does not count my own pageviews. Counting how many pageviews I get (from visitors) is just as important to me as seeing total visitors, because it shows whether visitors are actually using my site, not just landing on it by some fluke and then leaving...Hmm or I could just rely on the wordpress pageview count (my visits arent counted there). I still don't like that inflated pageview count showing on my flagcounter though!
