Re: Problems with comment pages

uhn...
this issue is complicated.
well, I am one that only collects flags for fun, I don't have a site to keep track of my visitors. Most of my flags came from internet foruns, where there is no way to hide the image because it only accepts bbcode. And surprinsingly I receive some messages asking me about the flags and how they can get one like mine, so I totally gets Jeremy point. However, I think blocking one or two websites isn't the right choice, despite the number of viewers. I mean, a page with high traffic means more publicity So in my opinion, a way of preventing the hiding of the FC advertisement willl be more afficient, or desencouraging massive spans. For example. for free users, maploco allows you to watch your statistics only if your map has less than 10k viewers daily. So I think this is an interesting approach, so maps with high traffic will have to buy a pro account.

Re: Problems with comment pages

some history. the first time i saw flagcounter nearly two years ago. my first impression was, it is a kind of game, "sport" to collect flags from all over the world  normaly for some daily visits "nobody" need a boring flagcounter with 50 hits. i discuss this with our people on my network and we started in jan 2011 to collect flags. first we started very slow, after some weeks i had contacts with some members of forum here and they told me the tricks.  jeremy is right in many things. webpages like zedge is a disgrace but i think that a lot (30-50%) of the users posted there in the past. the image of just a game. but without all this, the great fun of flagcounter now is over for me. in my case i stopped now all the postings, allowed or not allowed. for nomal daily visits i don`t need a flagcounter and without all this comment pages (owned/operated or not) nobody will complete the set of countries/flags. there are never "real" visits for example from biot or .um like i wrote it in the beginning, as a game fantastic. i write this today, because many (or the most) people are thinking so like i, but they are afraid to write it. i understand very well jeremy and his policy and we should all accept this. i stopped postings, the game is over. hopefully others are following and accept the terms and the policy of jeremy.

Re: Problems with comment pages

paul:

you know it very well, that you never can complete the set of all flags/countries (240 domains by the moment) with only "real" visits. i wrote only the true. normaly all need helpers as some comment pages like in the past or whatever. but also terms are terms and rules are rules. everybody knows it now very well and it brings nothing to discuss everyday about it. look, last hours forum was again a kind of worse. you are right, no question, for new users it will be very difficult in the future.

Re: Problems with comment pages

yes i agree Alex.......the only way to get a set is either via proxy, or via comments........
so if you take those two aspects away....what are you left with?
as ive mentioned before, it doesnt really affect me....im missing about 10 flags.....which i will probably never get.....but new users will never get to that level, because of the way things have changed.....and let's be honest, if it wasn't for certain people posting 50 counters there wouldnt even be this problem now.....this only came about when those lot starting posting a silly ammount of counters....and you know exactly who i mean........unfortunately now...everyone is made to suffer because of one person or groups greediness......and thats all is it... greed.

Re: Problems with comment pages

@ Alexander: Sorry - but BIOT is - or at least has been - available from a real person. A woman named Lynne was there and gave me some real visits. (We share the same hobby.) Unfortunately she left Diego Garcia some weeks ago...

Re: Problems with comment pages

Well, I thought I'd better stay away from this, but I simply can't. I'm feeling extremely sorry for new users (or those who only started collecting flags, instead of just having a boring Flag Counter with 5 hits per day on a site no one visits), cause now, when it's being blocked on sites like Zedge (although I only posted on there a few times to complete my Indonesian regional collection) they won't be able to have a complete collection.

Jeremy, you said that those counters on Zedge didn't have your logo pictured. You're right, they didn't, cause they were PRO counters (well, most of them). And since Pro counters are not obligated to include the FC logo, we've done nothing wrong. My counters, for example, were not hidden, they were clearly showing pageviews. Rod's were showing flags, and so on and so on. You CAN'T hide your counters on Zedge, cause it allows only a BBCode.

There's only one thing I don't agree with - someone posting 50 different counters in one comment everywhere on the internet. THAT slows down servers and THAT should be banned. And it's still not. People who post a few comments with THEIR OWN counters to get some rare flags have to suffer because of some dipshit that posts 50 counters in one post? Unfair, isn't it?

With these new rules you'll start losing your customers VERY quickly. I'm sure 99% of Pro users will cancel their subscription (me included), cause they wouldn't want to pay for something that they can't make use of. And please, don't start with 'a site you own or operate'... There is maybe a 1% of FC users that actually DO use their Flagcounters only on sites they own and operate. The majority of FC users use their Flagcounters to have fun from collecting flags.

I don't have anything against your decisions, you are the admin, but you're goona regret them sooner or later. Losing customers means losing business.

Re: Problems with comment pages

sure Paul, you are right again. i posted in the past my counter visible in zedge and some weeks before in flickr. nothing more, nothing. for more i am without time. i know very well what you mean, but sorry i have not done the terms and rules. why i have now to looking for new comment pages which maybe are blocked again in the future. that does not make any sense.
