The Liberal Party leader is an interim leader, meaning he is a substitute leader until the leadership convention, where the Liberal party votes for a new, permanent leader. The Liberal Party's Interim Leader is Bob Rae.

Jack Layton passed away a few months ago, thus the New Democratic Party (NDP) has an interim leader also, until the NDP leadership convention. The NDP interim leader is Nycole Turmel. The NDP is now the official opposition party in Canada.

It's ironic that Canada has a far right wing party leading and a left wing party as official opposition.
