Why that country is not called Myanmar in flagcounter? Myanmar is the official name of the country.

The federal information processing standard uses Burma........as do a lot of countries, and international organisations including the CIA world factbook.

You'd think that by now all those agencies and record keepers would have amended their data  and respectfully changed the name. Burma became Myanmar in 1989.

It is not about respect. Or maybe it is. Because using Myanmar as the name for Burma is a recognition of the military government that arbitrarily changed the name. Choosing the name to use for referring to another country is more than just taking their government's word for it.

Sometimes the countries would like to be officially called in a different way, but they are not followed.
The greatest case is acout an African country where, in April 1986, the government declared Côte d'Ivoire (or, more fully, République de Côte d'Ivoire) to be its formal name for the purposes of diplomatic protocol, and officially refuses to recognize or accept any translation from French to another language in its international dealings. Despite the Ivorian government's request, the English translation "Ivory Coast" (often "the Ivory Coast") is still frequently used in English, by various media outlets and publications.
I think that the double form of Burma and Myanmar will remain, without an agreement and/or a unique solution.

On the photo, Côte d'Ivoire not translated into Ivory Coast, in English, at the United Nations.
