Securing a Counter?

Hello everyone! Just joined to ask this question.

We've got a site that has one of your counters on it, but the problem is that our site is secured, but the counter is not. The result is that in IE it gives you this error message everytime you go to our homepage:

So I guess the question is, how can I make the counter secured, or atleast make the popup box disappear in IE (this doesn't happen in mozilla for some reason).

Thanks!

-David.

Re: Securing a Counter?

David, welcome to the forum

Try Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Display Mixed Content: Enable

Does it work?

Re: Securing a Counter?

hmm - under custom level I have the following possiblities:

.NET Framework
.Net Framework-reliant components
ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Downloads
Enable .Net Framework setup
Miscellaneous
Scripting
User Authentication

I don't see Display Mixed Content

But the problem with that is, wouldn't everyone who came to our site have to either already changed their IE browser, or have the problem of the popup box - is there anything that can be done with the flagcounter/site to make it "automatic" that they don't have to change their browser, or is that not possible?

Thanks though!

Re: Securing a Counter?

Should be there under Miscellaneous, 6th option in my IE

Hmmm
If they get that pop-up box, they could click on "no" & the insecure resources (flag counter) will be displayed in the page.
How about you change the url of flagcounter so that instead of http it says https and see what happens
Would it be possible to make HTTPS work as HTTP?
I suggest you read this, I hope it answers to some of your questions, because I really don't know much about http/https

Maybe someone else on the forum knows. Let's also wait for Jeremy, flag counter developer, to come online

Re: Securing a Counter?

Unfortunately, we do not support Flag Counter for secure pages.

Re: Securing a Counter?

I have several eCommerce websites that are secure (https) in certain sections.  When I place this app in the footer (so it can track pageviews) it flags the "mixed content" pop-up.  This can be concerning to some of my customers which basically means that without some sort of https/secure page fix, this tool maybe more problem then it is worth.  I think it's a cute little widget and would like to see it work; all that needs to happen, really, is just have an https version of the links in the widget code.  As I understand it, you do not NEED an SSL cert if it's just pulling images, so there shouldn't be any additional hosting costs involved on the part of FlagCounter.  I look forward to hearing any thoughts.

Re: Securing a Counter?

We're considering the option for Pro users, if there is enough support.  We've only had a handful of requests at this time, and there are two issues: (1) maintaining an SSL certificate on each of our 7 servers (yes it is required, and we haven't had enough people request the feature to pay for even this yet) and (2) it places increased overhead on our servers to encrypt the images (which is why it'd only be available for counters that have been upgraded to Pro)

If anyone else is interested in using Flag Counter on encrypted pages, please post here!
