You should regenerate the FC code and select flag counter image option, not Map option.

I afraid not.
Flag Counter can only start counting when the Flag Counter image is on your site and will be displayed.

You will see that you have collected visits from 36 US states if you click on the "+" in front of the US flag accessible by clicking on the at the "View all" link at the Flag Counter overview page.
