Wrong area?

How does flag counter determine location?

I use 2 different types of counters.  This one picks up a location 50 miles away from where the actual hit came from.  The other counter is free and more accurate.  I pay yearly for this one and it's not accurate.

This is a bit concerning since I invested in this one thinking it was better.

Re: Wrong area?

Counters are based on someone's IP address, not their physical location.

Re: Wrong area?

Hi badwolfgirl,

We use one of the best means available to determine a visitor's location, which is based on the visitor's IP address. Within 50 miles seems pretty reasonable. If another service is getting you even closer than that, they may be using GPS data or have some other means of accessing your location?

Our service is highly accurate and I don't think that comparing services based on a single visit is a fair way of telling you if one service is better than another.
