Taiwan: Setting things straight
Hi! I'm a Chinese/Taiwanese who has lived in the USA and in Taiwan. I've noticed many misconceptions about my country, likely caused by its geographical isolation, and I'd like to give a brief guide to what it's really like.
Taiwan IS:
-A province of the Republic of China
-A multiparty democracy
-An economic power
Taiwan IS NOT:
-A province of the People's Republic of China
-A breakaway region
-Japanophile
Any thoughts? I'd be happy to clarify any confusions

Re: Taiwan: Setting things straight
We visited last year 3 cities (Taipei, Tainan and Kaohsiung) in Taiwan by train in 2 weeks.
It was a wonderful trip. It's such a save and clean country. We love the night markets,
especially the night markets in Tainan. Love the people and the food!!
And you can see Hello Kitty everywhere in Taipei.

In short, Taiwan is a short form to definy the Republic of China, the real Republic of China, born in the year 1912 and with the traditional flag adopted in that year.
No offence if many people consider Taiwan (a part of the Republic of China) as the name of all the country. It is a mistake of the same category of Holland-instead-of-the-Netherlands, or of England-instead-of-Great-Britain.
Long live your noble country, that, in my blog with the borders, is however called in its correct form.
